Jesus my provider
My faith in God started when I was 7 years old. I witnessed my father who was not saved at the time have an encounter with the Lord which led him to accept Jesus. The same night he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and he told me to prepare to meet him over river Jordan. I lost my mom at an early age and eventually became the responsibility of my older siblings. God speaks to me through visions, even from an early age. I grew up believing God. I just believe in God! All I do is pray to God and believe in His word. Several times in my life I have fallen on hard times but the Lord always makes a way for me. He has been opening doors even before I accepted Him.
I can recall when I was working and things were tight. I bought some furniture on hire purchase and they were repossessed. The Lord showed me in a vision what was about to unfold. I returned from work to find my apartment empty and the landlord was fussing. The Lord instructed me that night to go to a specific church sister. I disobeyed and went to another person. I thought to myself that she would have the money to help me since she was a businesswoman. I was redirected to the sister that the Lord told me to go and see. She met me at the gate and confirmed what the Lord told me. She said, “don’t worry, the Lord told me what to do.” She took money that was set aside for her children to attend camp and accompanied me to the store to have the items returned.
Life took my husband and I to the Bahamas in hope of a better life. I worked for a short time but had to leave the country because I didn’t have a work permit. There was also an incident on a work site which caused my husband and his friend to be out of work. Because we went as a group, we had to leave as a group. God would have it that a Bishop in Hamilton wanted us to come to Canada and so he sent us a letter which allowed us to enter Canada. When we arrived, the Immigration Officers took us into a room but eventually allowed us to enter. I later discovered that letter was not sufficient and Immigration wanted to deport us. However, they gave us the contact for a lawyer and eventually we were given our landed status.
During the early days in Canada, I worked in a factory. I also picked apples. I was willing to do whatever it took to survive. I wanted something more out of life. I wanted God. There was a burden on my heart and I knew God was dealing with me. God visited me in a dream and I saw a lady with a book who told me to follow her. I heard a voice say, “There is a mustard seed in your hand. If your sin is like a mustard seed you cannot enter.” I woke up and decided that I needed to find a church. My daughter connected me to a minister’s wife who brought me to church. After a number of visits, I decided that it was time to surrender to the Lord. I accepted baptism but had to leave for Edmonton because by this time my husband was working in Edmonton.
Ask and it shall be given
I believe God and I trust in God. I recall one morning while being broke I visited a friend with the intention of asking for some money. We chatted for a while and I left without asking. I decided to go back to ask and immediately I heard a voice say “No, you have flour and cabbage.” Another time I was broke and I asked the Lord for $20. I also told Him I wanted this money by the time I got to work. I was a janitor at the time and I left for work with the hopes of finding this money along the way. I didn’t find any money but when I got to my workplace (a school), the principal told me that they had a luncheon but the food wasn’t enough so none was left for me. She gave me $20.00 and at that moment I thought to myself, I should have asked the Lord for more (chuckle).
Another time, I wanted to buy a piano for my grand-daughter. I prayed about it. Not long after, I received a call from my former employer. They told me they decided that my severance package was inadequate. The following day, I picked up a cheque for $1500. I made a deposit on the piano but it needed more. I had told my daughter that she was responsible to pay the balance. Later I got a call from someone needing a babysitter. That night the Lord visited me in a dream and told me that I should pay the balance with the money from my babysitting job.
Jesus my Healer
Over twenty years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer on both sides of my neck. I was not worried since I knew that God had a plan for my life and I had proven Him over and over again. Looking over my life and the journey that I’ve been on, it is God who has taken me through. He has always been there and continues to take care of me. A sister from my church kept pushing me to have the lumps on the sides of my neck checked. I eventually complied and found out that it was cancer. I was not fazed; I simply prayed about it and the Lord instructed through a dream that I needed to have it removed. Throughout the process, I asked the brethren to pray. I did one round of chemotherapy but I became worst and I told the doctor that I would not be continuing with the treatment. I would do my follow up visits and over time I was completely healed.
About three years ago, I discovered yet another lump under my armpit. I prayed to the Lord and I went to the doctor and he did blood work as well as a biopsy. He initially thought I would need to do surgery but each time he checked, he noticed the lump was getting smaller and smaller. On my most recent visit, he gave me an all clear and laughed and said he hopes that I will live to see 100 years. It was my last visit to Cross Cancer Hospital.
I definitely depend on the Lord. I have so many stories of God’s provision. I don’t allow anything to bother me. The Lord always shows me everything before they actually happen and I have learnt to trust Him. Even my current home was shown to me so I just trust God fully. The Lord has never left me alone.
